Support Children in Lebanon

By Kelsi Young | Development Officer

Lebanon is experiencing an unprecedented crisis, one of the most devastating in its history. Since October 2024, over a million people have been displaced, with children and young people among the hardest hit. To address this urgent need, Global Fund for Children established an Emergency Response Fund to deliver critical assistance to its local partners.

While a ceasefire was established between Israel and Hezbollah in November 2024, tensions remain high, and the situation is still fragile. The withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon has been delayed, now set for February 2025. Recent incidents, including the killing of 22 protesters by Israeli forces in January, indicate that violence has not fully stopped. Additionally, political instability, economic hardship, and Hezbollah's influence continue to be sources of tension.

Our two partners in the region have been actively providing emergency services since the crisis began, ensuring that children and their families receive critical support. Their efforts focus on delivering essential humanitarian aid, including food, clothing, and shelter, to those in urgent need. In addition to addressing immediate survival needs, they are also providing livelihood assistance to help affected individuals rebuild their economic stability.

A significant aspect of their work involves supporting displaced families as they return to their homes, navigating the challenges posed by the destruction of infrastructure and loss of livelihoods. Many traders and workers, whose economic situations were already fragile, have faced further devastation, making sustained assistance crucial.

Beyond material aid, our partners are deeply committed to the well-being of children, offering psychosocial, health, and emotional support to help them cope with the trauma of displacement and uncertainty. By fostering a sense of stability and resilience, they are ensuring that children receive the care and support they need. GFC will continue to stay in close contact with our partners to provide support as needed.
