Ukraine Response

By Salima Biglary | programs and Partnerships Coordinator

International Blue Crescent Foundation (IBC) continues its intense support and relief to the Ukrainian people.

In the conflicts that have been going on for more than 2 years, the Ukrainian people are experiencing great difficulties in reaching vital needs such as health, shelter, food and access to clean water, which are among the basic human needs. IBC continues to work meticulously in the region to solve the problems experienced in these vital needs.

IBC is taking steps towards consolidating its presence in strategic locations to carry out its activities more effectively and urgently. The Foundation established offices and warehouses in the Gagauz region as the first step of this mission, and later expanded its offices and warehouses to Southern Moldova, from Odesa to Olbast, from Bolhrad to Mykolaiv and Kherson, to support Ukrainian refugees.

Over time, it continued its support for basic humanitarian needs and relief under many headings such as health, food security, shelter, non-food products, water sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). In addition, the Foundation, which wants to take more responsibility for the support it provides in the region, aims to provide even more effective solutions with its donor Action Medeor was established Mavi Hilal Ukraine in cooperation. The Foundation, which continues its activities in the region with great devotion without stopping for even a minute, has distributed stoves, winter vests, and fuel briquettes, together with its donor Action Medeor, to innocent civilians struggling with cold winter conditions in the villages of Muzykivka and Bilozerka in the Kherson region since March 20.

IBC, which closely monitors the disruptions in health services during ongoing conflicts and offers solutions at this point, has taken important steps to ensure the continuity of relief. As a sign of this, a new family medicine polyclinic was opened in the village of Tarutino in the Bolhrad district of the Odesa region on April 5, 2024, by Mavi Hilal Ukraine, the local organization of the Foundation. The opening ceremony of the polyclinic was attended by the Mavi Hilal Ukraine and International Blue Crescent Foundation team, Ukraine and Moldova Director Abdurrahman Temelli, Ukraine Operations Director Burhan Dülger, International Blue Crescent Foundation Moldova Organization Head Aliona Posmak-Kurdoglo, Tarutino Village Head Savva Chernev, doctors, representatives of charities and took place with public participation.

The polyclinic will provide medical services to both residents of the region and hundreds of displaced people who were forced to move to this region from the frontline and occupied territories of Ukraine. Moreover, Mavi Hilal Ukraine, together with its partner, the German aid organization Action Medeor, provided the polyclinic with the necessary equipment it needed.

IBC and Mavi Hilal Ukraine will continue their work in Ukraine and meet the needs of innocent civilians with great care.
