Approximately 50 women have been reached in 2018 making a total of 350. In 2018, women and their families have started some of the projects planned from last year. One family has increased their tree seedlings to 3,000 from 2,000 in November. Seedlings include China yellow and China yellow/white trees ready for market. They sell the seedlings to the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute. They have been able to pay fees for their children in secondary school. Other women have embarked on poultry, dairy farming and horticulture. Another group led by a community health worker is focusing on educating women and their families on better home care for the sick and improved nutrition.
The challenges faced include drought because December to March is the dry season in most parts of the country. Also, Getting the right species of vegetables was a challenge due to limited funds. Transportation continues to be a major problem due to the high cost of travel. This makes it hard for the hard to reach women and their families.
