When Xiao Hua dialed the 113 Protection Hotline, he wasn’t sure what would happen. His voice trembled as he was speaking to the other end of the line. Years of pain, rejection, and fear had left him hesitant to trust anyone—but this time, someone listened. That call brought Xiao Hua to Mustard Seed Youth Home, a place where his life began to change.
Xiao Hua’s story started in heartbreak. At just five years old, he endured abuse from his stepfather that left him bruised and toothless. Moved between foster homes and care facilities, his childhood was a blur of instability and longing. As a teenager, hope flickered when he was told he could return to his family. He dreamed of warmth, connection, and love. Instead, he faced rejection and blame yet again, with his attempts to rebuild bonds met by harsh words and physical discipline.
At the Youth Home, Xiao Hua found something he had never known: safety and understanding. Patient caregivers helped him heal, slowly rebuilding his confidence and trust. Each day, he took another step away from his past, and towards transforming his pain into resilience.
His growth became evident in the ways he began to give back. When Typhoon Koinu devastated Orchid Island in 2023, Xiao Hua volunteered to help rebuild homes, working tirelessly to assist families in need. In another moment of transformation, he stepped into the role of teaching assistant at a block-building camp hosted by The Mustard Seed Mission, guiding children with warmth and encouragement. These acts weren’t just about helping others, they were milestones in his journey of healing and self-fulfillment.
Today, Xiao Hua dreams of working in a helping profession, supporting children who, like him, have faced life’s hardest challenges. While he continues to grow under the care of Mustard Seed Youth Home, his determination to turn his pain into a force for good inspires everyone around him.
There are still countless children like Xiao Hua, waiting for the chance to heal and find hope. With your support, Mustard Seed Youth Home can continue to provide the care and nurturing that transforms lives.
Together, we can help more children rewrite their stories and build brighter futures.
