In this new year we hope for the best for you. 2023 has come with a lot of changes and opportunities, our work has developed with time as well.
We want to improve further for the Wayuu mochilas project in Guajira this year. We are going to establish a social cooperative in earnest centred on Koushalain community Wayuu womens to improve the profit structure. For this purpose, we keep in touch with SENA(Colombia National Training Service) and teachers who handle a bunch of topics. We will provide class and exercise which are about topics that help make mochilas.
In recent months, we made a one-year education curriculum which consists of digital marketing class, fabric, colour measurement, accounting, and Spanish. Through these various classes, we want to improve women’s economic independence, make handicrafts, provide opportunities in various economic activities, and the power of women in the region. In addition, we want to provide a platform for Wayuu women to sell their products at fair prices and earn income proportional to their effort.
Moreover, there is satisfactory progress in farmland, which has worked with the community for more than a year. Now, in this place, there are crops such as pumpkin, corn, pepper, and yucca. These crops are able to supply organic foods, and are able to reinforce Job efficiency & teamwork because of everyone participating in this process in this place. At present, we are in the process of purchasing additional necessary items for the irrigation system which was installed in 2022 and allows crops to perform constant and necessary water irrigation for a harvest.
Within March, we will buy irrigation tape and 5000L water tanks, various seeds to diversify this crop, and enable the community to have a more sustainable diet through their own crops.
Lastly, at the end of March, we will visit the village of Guajira to see the progress of the cultivated land, establish a social cooperative, and organise orientation about class progress. We are very grateful for all the support that you have given us to continue this project, which will transform the lives of native communities not only Wayuu but also develop foundations. We will report on the performance periodically in this year.
