By Kirk Bowman | Director, Rise Up & Care
Rise Up & Care combined with Miratus Badminton Association in Rio de Janeiro to provide Covid-19 relief and to generate a fund for the favela badminton players to return to tournaments after the pandemic. In total, we raised over $27,000. 100% of the money went to Covid-19 relief (food and sanitizing materiels) and tournament travel. We also distributed for free 1000 children's books.
The relief money purchased 50 tons of food for the families of the Chacrinha and surrounding favelas. The food was distributed at the badminton center, in monthly food baskets, by badminton players in masks and social distanced.
