“Empower through Education for Poverty Eradication”

Greetings from Team Shaishav and Adhar.

We are happy to share some of our experiences of our relentless efforts for educating

children of remote tribal area of Dahod district of Gujarat state in India. They are children

of migrant workers and many of them are first school going generation of their families.

Our objective is to eradicate poverty from the district through helping these children for

education and thus protect them from remaining unskilled labour workers when they grow

up. We believe education can play a crucial role in empowerment of these disadvantaged

children and make them sensitive and responsible citizens of the nation.

In last quarter we continued our activities in the schools by regular visits to the schools and

undertaking various interactive activities with the children at schools. These included

awareness generation about child rights and child protection as well as motivational

activities to develop leadership and creativity qualities among the children. Total 1321

participated. The objective of this camp was to make the children aware of Child rights,

Difference between wish and necessity and also provide training of life skills and teach new

games with toys explaining basic principles and theories of science.

and 197 boys i.e. total 320 children of five villages participated in various competitions and

games and enjoyed the programme and learned the lessons of participation and

In February 2016, Shaishav team provided training to the organizers of Adhar about

project work. The training covered creative ways to educate various topics related to

consumer protection, freedom fighters and constitution. The training was organized to

make Adhar team familiar of aforementioned topics so that they can further educate to the

children of villages.

In addition,, various training material was provided to Adhar by Shaishav.

Apart from this, following the action plan prepared during state level child consultation

meet held in November 2015, ‘Child Rights Audit’ was conducted in 5 villages of Dahod

district. The exercise was done to identify the risks and issues affecting child rights and

child protection in the villages. The exercise was done by the children themselves. From

January till date 106 out of 200 forms are filled up and remaining would be completed by

end of March 2016.
