Young mothers want to learn, but face significant barriers to accessing education, training and gaining the skills needed for employment or to generate their own income. We are proudly providing young mothers with free vocational and business skills training with a package of support, which ensures that our free courses are accessible and inclusive for young mothers from start to finish. From 2025-2030, we aim to support 1,100 young mothers to gain the skills to build safe, self-reliant futures
Poverty and gender-based violence leave many girls in Kenya vulnerable to exploitation, with 15% aged 15-19 pressured into pregnancy, while still children themselves. Early motherhood often means the end of their education, their dreams, and the chance to build a secure future. Without access to training or employment opportunities, they remain trapped in poverty and exploitation, facing shame and hopelessness. With your support, they can break free-gaining skills, confidence, and self-reliance.
Our 3 Seed of Hope centres in Kenya provide vocational and business skills training in marginalised communities. Young mothers make up 15% of our students, facing unique barriers to education. We offer a package of support - childcare vouchers, period pads, lunches, counselling, and life skills - to ensure success. Each year, we empower nearly 200 young mothers with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to break cycles of poverty and build brighter futures for themselves and their children.
Access to education, skills training, and wellbeing support can break cycles of poverty. The young mothers we work with prove this. Within 9 months of completing Seed of Hope training, over 75% secure jobs or start businesses, and 70% cover their food, rent and bills independently. More than 80% mentor others, while some create jobs and internships, supporting family and their community. Their success not only transforms their own lives but also drives long-term change for future generations.
