Mother & Child Hospital Foundation Progress Report

Dear Friends,

We trust and pray that this letter finds you and your family in good health! This has turned out to be one of the most challenging years for many around the globe! Like most businesses, organizations around the world our small NGO did not go unaffected by the crises posed to us by COVID19. Despite reduced funding in some of our projects and cuts in staff, our work did not stop! Thanks to your continued generous support and grants generously given by GlobalGiving to our organization we were able to respond to the COVID19 crisis.

At the start of the appearance of the first COVID-19 cases in Albania, followed shortly by the comprehensive lockdown imposed on the country by the government, the Foundation reshaped some of its services to meet an emerging need. In response to countless messages received through our social media from women and beneficiaries, we started an online series of Telehealth consultation titled “Ask the Doctor” and hosted in YouTube. The series Ask the Doctor is a combination between our existing Perinatal Online Classes as well as building on a telehealth platform.

Additionally, the foundation has worked within the hospital setting and recently through a newly started social enterprise, MamiCare Center, to help increase access of women to safe prenatal care.

Thus far thanks to your sacrificial giving and grants by GlobalGiving we have been able to produce an additional 35 new videos responding to the many questions of expectant and new mothers!
Just during this time, we have served some 7000 women in Albanian speaking regions across media channels by providing access to medical care via telehealth to pregnant and new mothers who are in lockdown due to COVID-19.
We have helped reduce hospital overcrowding and reduced the rate of infection of pregnant women by being a resource for them during this time.

We are looking forward to keeping this initiative and building upon it to continue helping women access free and quality healthcare during uncertain times.

Progress Report, Online Prenatal Classes

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! May this new decade bring much joy and happiness to you and family! As we have reflected on this past year, we are so grateful to have had your support for our work with pregnant mothers here in Albania. Your generous contributions have helped us broaden our impact to the expectant mothers in Albania and Albanian speaking regions in the Balkans.

Here are some new ways our online prenatal classes have served the Albanian community, especially those in most vulnerable situations, in this last quarter:
Local partner NGOs that work in remote areas in Northern Albania are using our YouTube Channel and the prenatal videos online as curricula for health education with women in those areas.
The prenatal videos have been a great tool for the Foundation staff in responding to various prenatal care topics requested by mothers who come and visit our site.
Thus far we have reached over 50.000 women and our most requested video has been “How to Bathe and Dress Your Baby” it alone has had 30.000 views!

Here is how two parents who are subscribed to our channel put it:

“Ndihemi me te qete persa i perket menyres se si duhet t'a veshim, ta lajme, t'a ushqejme dhe t'a veme ne gjume beben tone. Shume faleminderit!” English Translation: “We feel a lot more confident and at peace now on how to bathe, dress, feed and help our baby fall asleep. Thank you very much”

We have distributed an additional 20 baby boxes of joy (containing clothing and supplies for babies) to mother in need hospitalized at the Queen Geraldine Maternity Hospital and Koco Gliozheni University Hospital in Tirana.

Boxes of Joy for Mothers in Need

Dear Friends,

We would like to thank you once more for supporting the Mother and Child Hospital Foundation in Albania. A few months ago, you chose to generously support our “Online Perinatal Classes for Women in Albania” project through a GlobalGiving campaign. We are grateful to share with you our progress and the significance of your contributions.

Our campaign in Global Giving raised $8025. Your generosity and support, along with the dedication and passion of our staff and volunteers, helped achieve the following for this second quarter:

We created a Youtube Channel with the first-ever Perinatal Care videos recorded in the Albanian language.

- 8 videos have been published

-2 videos are in the process of editing

-We used our targeted awareness-raising campaign through local and social media to reach over 40.000 women of reproductive age.

- Our videos have been viewed thousands of times throughout Albania and Kosovo, and we hope that we have impacted as many lives. Our awareness campaign will continue in the next few months, as we try to maximize the reach and impact of these instructional videos.

- We have provided breastfeeding, delivery and post-natal instructions through our free perinatal classes to over 110 mothers hospitalized at the two maternity hospitals in Tirana.

- We have distributed 40 baby boxes of joy (containing clothing and supplies for babies) to mother in need hospitalized at Queen Geraldine and Koco Gliozheni Maternity Hospital.
