Thank you for all your support in helping us provide pregnant and post-partum mothers with tools to understand their own and their baby's bodies, and the changes taking place in pregnancy and birth. We do this through four main activities:
It has been a busy December. We kicked off with a table at the Annual Christmas Bazaar, where we were raising money to purchase good quality pumps for mothers who have their babies in the NICU. We are 70% of the way to our target!
At the end of the year, we have a tradition to hand out gift bags to all mothers. This year we were able to give small gifts of baby blankets, as well as baby gear donated by the Chicco Company to 100 mothers at the two largest maternity hospitals in the country.
This year we also added a small celebration to thank the midwives, nurses, and the cleaning staff on duty. Our girls helped us to serve and to thank them for their hard work this year. This level of staff do not often get the appreciation that the doctors get, so they were particularly happy for this gesture.
The most recent mother who got the box of baby essentials we give to the most economically needy mothers comes from Puke, a city in the north of Albania. She was a recipient because her husband earns a small income in construction, and they have many children to care for. In all, we have handed out close to 100 boxes of hope throughout the year.
We are grateful to Bethany and Anne for coming in twice weekly to give one-on-one support to mothers who are initiating breastfeeding after giving birth. Our prenatal classes have been put on hold as the wing where we hold them undergoes reconstruction, but we look forward to adding classes at the other maternity hospital in the New Year.
