Dear Friends of ACDI/VOCA:
Planning for the Climate Camp project has been proceeding in earnest since our last report to you!
Worth mentioning upfront is that what was initially proposed as a one-day training of 200 Jamaican youth to help their local communities better manage climate change’s effects recently became a weeklong series of more focused activities.
The change to a full week of training was made possible with the help of the Jamaica Library Service in partnership with ACDI/VOCA’s team in Jamaica. Now Climate Camp will be held July 10-14, 2017—five hours daily—from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Library, Tom Redcam Drive, Kingston.
According to our team in Jamaica, a one week program made more logistical sense for the attendees, their parents and local volunteers. In addition, the host library can contribute a range of additional support services that will result in much deeper engagement by attendees.
Importantly, this change to a weeklong camp can easily be managed with the same $10,000 budget given the library’s involvement.
We are pleased to share with you the latest Climate Camp developments, and thank you again for support and continued interest!
