Thanks to the support of more than 200 friends, friends of friends, partners, volunteers, and new donors, we are thrilled to announce that WINGS has won the Global Giving Challenge, a contest in which more than 60 projects competed to raise the most funds and earn a permanent spot on the Global Giving website. We raised over $15,000 during the contest period, and as a result of our success, we will receive an additional $4,000 in funding for our family planning project from the Global Giving Foundation.
This funding will have an enormous impact. With these funds, we could provide 1,180 people with voluntary tubal ligations or vasectomies; we could subsidize Jadelle implants for 505 women, protecting them from unwanted pregnancy for five years; our volunteer family planning promoters could provide 1,415 women with Depo-Provera injections for one year; or we could cover the costs of over 1,500 intrauterine devices (IUDs). Of course, how this money is actually spent will depend on the individual choices made by the thousands of women and men who benefit from WINGS' services. Overall, we estimate that this funding will provide more than 6,700 years worth of protection from unwanted pregnancy for Guatemalan couples. By planning their families, these couples will be able to invest in a brighter future for themselves and their children.
On behalf of the team here at WINGS and the people that we serve, thank you for making this success possible! We are grateful for your support.
