Kidsave’s recent Weekend Miracles event in Houston was a day filled with excitement, laughter, and hope. Older kids in foster care came together with caring adults for an afternoon of fun and creativity, all while building meaningful connections that could lead to finding their forever families.
The event began with a casual pizza lunch, providing the perfect opportunity for families and children to interact while coloring and drawing on craft paper. However, the highlight of the day was the 45-minute live science show. Several children were invited on stage to assist with the hands-on experiments, creating a vibrant atmosphere that captivated both kids and adults. The energy was contagious, and the activities helped break the ice, fostering connections among all the participants.
Following the science show, attendees took part in a fun and engaging game of "Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza." This interactive game mixed everyone into smaller teams, where participants rolled dice to answer fun, get-to-know-you questions. It was a fantastic way for everyone to share about themselves, promoting a strong sense of community.
The day concluded on a celebratory note with a birthday party for Zek, Jennifer, Jeremy, and Kidsave staff member Heather. The group joined in with cheers and warm wishes, creating a memorable and joyful experience for all.
As the event wrapped up, everyone began looking forward to the next adventure in November: Kidsave’s Hike with Your Heart is a peer-to-peer fundraiser where kids and adults will have the chance to strengthen their bonds in an outdoor setting. This event offers the public a unique opportunity to meet and interact with kids in our program, all while raising funds for older children in foster care. Hikers, including Kidsave alumni and current foster youth, will hike together, fostering meaningful connections in a supportive and welcoming environment.
