First Phase of Project Flash the Lights Underway

By Sangita Iyer | Project Leader

EXCITING NEWS!! We're launching the 1st of the several phases of "Flash the Lights for Elephants of India" campaign on January 17. Here are some key points:

  1. The 1st of its kind across the entire northern W. Bengal landscape, home to 500+ elephants who share space with more than 30 million people
  2. 2000+ flashlights (for 2000 workers) have arrived with laminated stickers. The verbiage means "Save Yourself and Save Them".
  3. Prior to distribution we will conduct a 2-hour awareness program with 150 tea plantation workers. We had to scale down from the initial 500 people to 150 due to COVID restrictions, although the gathering will take place in an open space
  4. We are creating teams and friendly competition among the workers to support each other and provide data that will help determine key factors, including reduction in tragedies for both humans and elephants.
  5. Human-elephant-conflict is rampant, with unprecedented elephant deaths this year alone and an annual death of around 10 people
  6. Flashlights will help mitigate conflict and inspire villagers to be gentler and compassionate towards our elephants, because we show the villagers that we care about them too.
  7. Elephants are TRUMPETING HEAPS OF GRATITUDE to all our donors because none of this would've happened without your generosity!!
  8. You can join our legacy campaign to save elephants from getting killed by electrocution by clicking HERE
