From vulnerable towns to University

In Peraj we started mentoring activities in 2022 in a hybrid mode, both virtual and in person, taking special care of the health of our pairs but without neglecting academic and socio-emotional support for children who today need it more than ever.

School dropout due to the pandemic has grown in large numbers in Mexico. The statistics show that more than 5 million students have dropped out of school, for reasons of health, economic, motivational and others.

Faced with this weakening in formal education, the Peraj Mentoring Program becomes ever more relevant, as it contributes to the comprehensive training of children and young people, who reinforce the knowledge acquired in formal education while strengthening the socio-emotional aspects.

 All this outlook has led us to extend the program to young mentees who attend second year of middle school, mainly in the states of Veracruz and Guerrero, in order to provide them the benefits of our program at an age which is crucial in their lives and their future. A pilot program will be carried out, in conjunction with the Moises Itzkowich Foundation, which will sponsor it, with the aim of strengthening our mentoring activities in the region mentioned above.

We are grateful to all the people who have joined this project and who open up the possibilities for us to continue with this work. Likewise, we invite you to continue to support Peraj and share what together we have achieved and will continue to achieve with this new initiative which will impact the lives and future of so many.

Peraj México is starting a new school year (2021-2022) filled with new learnings and facing exciting new challenges. Among these, one of the most interesting is continuing the program adaption to hybrid-work virtual and face to face procedures.

Due to their recently reinforced importance, we will keep up using digital tools for those situatons that still requiered it, and for groups face-to-face, we will enhance our methodologies and preserve the corresponding sanitary procedures.

We are deeply grateful towards our donors on the platform in the Little by Little Campaign. These contributions allow us to improve the program and benefit more Mexican children who, not only are currently in need, but are adapting to a fast and changing learning environment.

60 Higher Education institutions and 80 different university campuses began the current school year collaborating with us. We are expecting the participation of 2,000 mentors and 2,000 children through out the country.

We are glad to inform you we are continuing our work in the regions of Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas, where we are improving the capabilities of the program to be executed in both virtually and face-to-face modalities.
