With schools closed, there was a newfound trension in girl education. Daughters are historically lesser of a priority to be educated than sons, and when schools are closed or online, already girls are assumed to do the housework and in some cases, are married off, rather than sent back to school..

Yes, many parents and children are stressed because they are home-schooling kids right now, but in parts of Pakistan, there are girls for whom this COVID-10 lockdown, school closing, may be an excuse or the reason, they marry early and never return to school again.

Role models are very key to combat stereotypes and presenting publicly gold models to women top students is a very basic, but powerful way to do this.

When a girl gets an A or tops the class, we want her to know only know she is appreciated and special, but to have a symbol for that. So, we want to gift universities gold medals for these top performing girls, even in online ceremonies.
