The importance of sports education
By Maisie Mayne | Fundraising intern
To our supporters,
Sports and physical activity are essential for a child's development, improving both their physical and mental well-being. However, for many children in South Africa's townships, safe spaces to play, sports equipment, and trained educators are simply unavailable. Schools struggle to provide even basic resources, making sports education an afterthought.
This project will not only improve the health and well-being of children but also inspire them to explore careers in sports or education. By creating an environment where physical activity is encouraged, we can help children develop confidence, discipline, and teamwork skills that will benefit them for life.
Every child deserves the chance to play, grow, and thrive. Your support can help transform their education and future. Donate today and help us bring sports education to the children who need it most!

Safe play

Introduction
With most children in South Africa lacking access to education in general, it becomes hard for teachers and families to prioritise safe and educated sports activities, as they are barely receiving school books. Due to the lack of funding most rural or informal schools don't have sports equipment, proper infrastructure or playgrounds. Without safe outdoor activities at a young age, children are at risk of poor health as well as putting themselves in danger when they to play in unsupervised areas
Report
Sports education and being active is a vital part of a child's development and success in schooling. However, for many children in South Africa, there is a lack of sports equipment, proper and safe infrastructure to practise in and often no teachers educated or dedicated to providing extra-curricular or sports education. Our goal is to provide our local township school in South Africa with the necessary resources and improved infrastructure to provide activities for the children.

Dear Valued Donors,
We are thrilled to share our latest update on our project aimed at improving sports education and physical activity for children in South Africa. Your generous contributions have made a significant impact to date, and we want to express our heartfelt gratitude.
Sports Equipment and Resources:
- Thanks to your donations, we have been able to procure essential sports equipment such as balls, nets, and bids for basic sports.
- Our educators are incorporating sports-related educational materials into the curriculum, emphasizing the importance of physical activity however we do need help with training our teachers to maximise our sports lessons .
Infrastructure Enhancements:
- We’ve made strides in improving the school’s infrastructure. Safe and suitable spaces for sports and recreation and we have identified spaces we would love to transform into sports fields for the children but this comes at a cost around $5,000 per field so we have a very long road ahead of us
- We have funded astroturf for the pre-school centres under the jungle gyms to ensure we have a softer and safer surrounding but we still need to raise funds for 8 more areas to be fully safe!
We are committed to maintaining the momentum. Your continued support ensures the sustainability of this project and we thank you for this, are you a monthly donor to our project? If not, would you consider becoming a monthly donor to make an ongoing impact? It would really change our project dynamics and allow us to continue our work consistently.
We plan to organize sports events and celebrate the progress made by the children. Stay tuned for updates and invitations!
Thank you for being part of this transformative journey. Together, we are creating a brighter future for South African children—one kick, jump, and sprint at a time!
With gratitude,
Lloyd
