Hello dearest GEC community,
Whether you are a recurring, old, or new donor, we would like to take this opportunity to share with you the purpose and mission of our microgrant initiative.
At GEC, we aim to support not just our enrolled students but their families as well. Microgrants are offered to parents or families by way of providing capital for income-generating activities, such as starting small businesses or acquiring job skills. Microgrants have the power to contribute to leaving the cycle of poverty and to promote self-sufficiency. The microgrant program is our way of partnering with and supporting the communities we work in with our students.
Recently, we’ve taken a step back to evaluate the impact and future of the Microgrant initiative. We worked as a GEC team- with families, students, and alumni- to plot out the next steps of programming.
We came to a consensus that going forward, Microgrants can be used for the following purposes:
Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth: Microgrants support entrepreneurship and small-scale business ventures. They enable individuals to start or expand businesses, creating jobs for themselves and others in their communities. This, in turn, stimulates local economic growth.\
Education Access: Microgrants can be used to cover educational expenses, such as school fees, textbooks, or training courses. By increasing access to education, microgrants empower individuals to acquire knowledge and skills that can lead to better employment opportunities and a brighter future. We would consider our current alumni for these types of microgrants as a way to support their further educational aspirations past secondary school (high school level).
Our goal is that the microgrants’ impact goes beyond financial assistance and fosters long-term positive change in the lives of those they support.
It's donors like you who make our work possible, and we want you to know that your contribution is making a real difference in the lives of GEC scholars, alumni, and families.
We will keep you updated on our progress and the impact of your support.
In partnership,
The GEC Team
