Dear GlobalGiving Friends,
Sadly, all across the country there are dogs tethered 24/7 on ropes and chains, unable to get warmth when it’s cold, or shade when it’s baking hot. These forgotten dogs often have no regular access to food or even water.
With the help of our loyal supporters, we have been able to bring relief and some happiness to so many dogs stuck tethered outside with no suitable shelter from extremes of weather.
Getting dogs off chains and into secure enclosures with insulated doghouses is something Guardians does constantly. At this time of year, as Winter hits, the need is even more urgent.
In partnership with our outreach partners, Guardians of Rescue helped to improve the lives of more than two dozen inner city dogs in Philadelphia. Existing clients received their monthly flea, tick and heartworm medication. The team helped owners with yard cleanups, walks, and provided booster shots and deworming. And lucky Zeus got a new house!
Many low-income families lack the resources needed to provide their pets with the items we take for granted. That's where we come in. Whether it's food, non-tipping water bowls, a dog house, or a crate and enrichment tools to help bring dogs inside, we are ready to help. This unique boots-on-the-ground program has improved the lives of more than 100 dogs in the past 10 months.
Also, Guardians of Rescue and our partners were back in a Long Island, NY community that has so many dogs in need. The first dog we met was living tethered with a cable, and had a dog house that was far too small and offered very little protection from the elements. We installed a properly-sized insulated dog house for him and built a secure pen to give him the freedom to move around. In a day, his living conditions dramatically improved, along with his outlook on life.
As we were leaving the area, we found two dogs living chained with no shelter at all. As a temporary measure, we sourced two used shelters so they had cover for the night, and then provided proper dog houses to keep them safe and warm through the winter, and a secure run to get them off their chains.
All of the dogs who come into our program receive our ongoing support, including for medical needs and spaying/neutering, along with the option remaining open for owners to sign them into our care at any time.
We maintain that dogs should have access to the safety of a loving home with family, but where that isn't available to them, we work every day to protect them.
The very generous assistance from people like our friends here at GlobalGiving plays a big part in making this happen. Thank you for your help now and in the past. We would have been far less effective without your help.
Together we save them,
All of Us at Guardians of Rescue
