As we cozy up in the warmth of our homes, let us remember those who cannot share the same comfort. Each season, Distribute Aid organizes aid shipments to support displaced people by providing them with tents, sleeping bags, warm clothing, medicines and other emergency aid. Throughout the year we organize shipments to Americans without power and clean water after hurricane season, refugees living in European cities, and displaced civilians in Ukraine, Lebanon, and Gaza.
Each season comes with unique challenges for displaced people, whether they are forcibly displaced due to war or because of natural disasters. The challenges also vary by region. That is why Distribute Aid works closely with community-based groups to ensure the right aid items reach those in need. Whether it is warm clothing for winter, clean water filters after a flood or hurricane, or furniture to help rebuild after devastating fires.
Distribute Aid has developed supply-chains to support each of these vulnerable populations, and we surge aid each year to address both the unique immediate challenges and to preposition aid for future needs. We always start by assessing the needs of our frontline partners, then source and ship aid from our network of in-kind donors and community organizations. This year we have generators, warm winter clothing, tents & blankets, and N95 masks ready to go!
By proactively addressing the causes, we are able to prevent the worst harms during the seasons. In order to stay warm, people need power, shelter, and appropriate clothing. In order to prevent the spread of diseases in summer, people need masks and medicine. This preventative aid reduces long-term costs by reducing disease and hardship among displaced populations, conserving resources that can be used for their long-term benefit.
