Winter Aid Delivered

By Sara Lonegard | Executive Director

Aid Delivery in Bosnia
Aid Delivery in Bosnia

Over the winter months, Distribute Aid was able to send a number of humanitarian shipments to displaced people. In large part, we were able to meet the needs in communities due to our pre-positioning approach, meaning we had highly needed aid placed in strategic locations ready to go out when required.

Sending new shipments proved harder, due to not meeting our funding goal. That means our pre-positioned aid is dwindling and we need to restock the supplies.

However, let’s share the wins and celebrate the aid that did reach communities in need this winter!

New Year’s Distribution in Gaza

Right as the new year rolled around, one of our previous deliveries of aid was allowed entry into Gaza and distributed by the Anera team there. Due to the extreme shortage of goods in the country and skyrocketing prices on the black markets, this distribution of winter clothing for women and children filled a huge need for 2000 families.

Aid to Refugees in Bosnia

Thanks to a targeted collection by a group called Frachkollektive in Germany, Distribute Aid was able to help deliver much needed aid to Sarajevo in February.

The donations included jackets, sweaters, T-shirts, pants, socks, underwear, hats, scarves, rucksacks, sleeping bags and hygiene products. They were given to Kompass071 in Sarajevo, who run a community center among other services for people on the move in the Bosnian capital.

US Disaster Relief

With our strong pre-positioning programme in the US, we were able to respond to a number of crises over the winter season. We continued our support for those still impacted by the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene, particularly in Ashville NC. We were also able to respond swiftly to the flooding in KY thanks to the aid that was pre-positioned for community use during hurricane Helene.

Finally, we set up supply lines to aid those impacted by the fires in LA, resulting in several deliveries of vital supplies such as masks, furniture and blankets.

We are determined to continue our support for people on the move everywhere. Right now, we have hugely needed aid committed to go to Gaza from donors BUT we will not be able to move it without raising the money to cover shipping. Please continue to support and share this campaign
