Dear supporters,

The Protect their Journey #GirlsWhoMigrate campaign was launched to support women-led grassroots organizations who provide services, shelter and legal support to defend the rights of migrant girls and women in Mexico.During the past months, the organizations supported by this program have made significant progress towards the protection of migrant rights in Mexico.

Tzome Ixuk, on the southern border of Mexico, has offered shelter to more than 50 women fleeing from Central America. As well as having their basic needs met at the shelter, the women and girls are also receiving training so that they understand their rights, and are participating in self-care and security workshops.

“In the shelter we have the chance to share life experiences that affect us all regardless of the borders” Juanita, Tzome Ixuk

Kaltsilaltik, another organization in Chiapas has worked with migrant groups to exchange knowledge on cooking and cultural practices to help women maintain their identity and not forget their roots. The grant from Fondo Semillas has helped Kaltsilaltik become a point of reference for migrant children arriving in Comitán, (Chiapas) without any family, giving them legal advice and psychological support.

“We want to thank with all our heart, all the support given, we begin this year re-evaluating our work, re-building, preparing and strengthen to have clarity about how we can continue working”. Maya, Kalsilaltik

Dreamers Moms, in Tijuana is an organization supporting deported women and children from United States. In December they managed to reunite a boy that was separated from his mum last year during a massive deportation.

At Fondo Semillas, through our experience supporting women’s groups, we understand that not only is it necessary to support women and children who are experiencing migration first hand, but it is extremely important to raise awareness about migrant rights in region. Through the campaign, Fondo Semillas reached more than 2 million people that now are more aware of this topic.

None of this would have been possible without your trust and support.

You can continue to support the Protect their Journey #GirlsWhoMigrate campaign by increasing your donation or becoming part the Fondo Semillas planned giving donor community.

Thank you so much for supporting migrant girls and women.
