It's Showtime! It's Shorgol!

By Tish Mokrzycki | GFC project staff

SKHM children show off their talents
SKHM children show off their talents

The children with our partner South Kolkata Hamari Muskan worked hard this spring to put on a wonderful show of dance, art, and theatre.

This year’s annual show was called “Shorgol!” and featured a visual array of costumes and stage decorations, as the children acted in skits and performed karate feats and dances. More than 110 children participated showcasing their many talents—it was an event to remember! (and a very involved but gratifying effort by SKHM staff and volunteers!)

The value of the arts is unmistakable in how it stimulates creativity, community, and innovation. While many children of our partner SKHM face deep struggles at home, with parents who are sex workers, the arts provide therapeutic relief and an outlet for expressing and processing their emotions.

This annual show gives the children confidence, a sense of accomplishment, and happy memories, all of which help to lay the foundation for a healthier, brighter future.

SKHM was kind to thank Global Fund for Children for “making kids’ dreams come true." We thank YOU as part of our caring team of supporters!

Thank you for your generosity and for working with us to make sure all children, like those served by SKHM and CAP, are safe, strong, and valued.

We’ll continue to keep you informed about the progress of this important project.  If you have any comments or questions, contact me at tmokrzycki@globalfundforchildren.org.  Thank you!
