Medical Assistance for 100 Bull Terriers

By Stephanie Yarian | Project Leader

As of January 8, 2021, we, Helping Bull Terriers Worldwide, have provided spay/neuter funds for Bull Terrier Rescue Inc (15), Bull Terrier Rescue Mission (4), Bull Terrier Rescue of Central Florida (5), and 2 other private rescuers totaling 27 dogs during the quarter.  We expect this trend to continue and that the SNAP program will be needed.  We intend to continue raising funds for this program and are planning additional strategies to promote those efforts.

One special story we want to share is regarding Winnie rescued by Jennifer Grey with Sunny Day Acres. Winnie was found covered in ticks, too many to count, with a half a tail, and pregnant.  Winnie required special care immediately for a blood infection cause by the ticks and severely mutilated tail, needed a c-section to deliver her 3 babies (2 survived), required special medication because her mammary glands didn't produce safe milk for her babies (the 2 surviving pup required round the clock care in lieu of thier mother while she was recovering), and finally required her tail docked to clear the blood infection.  All of this occuring days after entering rescue.  Her vet thought that it would be best to wait to spay Winnie until after her pups were weened, not knowing that she was not going to produce viable milk.  This added to the cost of her care.  Helping Bull Terriers Worldwide was able to assist with SNAP funds to cover Winnie's spay.  Once her 2 pups are mature and old enough thier neuters will be paid for as well.  Winnie and her 2 pups, Monty ans Wally have all been adopted into loving homes.
