The above subject project seek to raised $50,000 from well-meaning people through GlobalGiving platform to enable 200 widows and her orphans in Abuja have access to healthcare services through health insurance. So far, total donations now is $7,860.

Twenty three (23) new widows has been enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for Group, Individual and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP). This programme is supported by the GlobalGiving donations. WEWE will continue to provide health insurance coverage for the 23 new widows and possibly increase the number of widows and orphans in Abuja who will continue to receive proper healthcare services.

Widows and Orphans Empowerment (WEWE) Organization this year marked the International Widows’ Day by supporting various partners. Federal Ministry of Women Affairs hosted 20 women that registered with WEWE. Additionally, WEWE Executive Director, Dr Josephine Ogazi, also donated a total of N100, 000 to the Ministry of Women Affairs in support of this year’s annual event. According to her, WEWE is also working with some other sister organizations towards improving the vulnerability of widows through raising awareness about their problems so as to attract the attention policymakers. The women also received food items and clothing.

June 23 every year is observed as the International Widows’ Day, a day set aside to commemorate the event and draw attention to the plight of widows. The event also aims to gather support for widows and to spread awareness about their situation.

For several women, the loss of a partner is magnified due to the long-term struggle for their basic rights and dignity. The theme of this year’s International Widows Day was "Invisible Women, Invisible Problems."

See attached pictures.

As donors continue to donate, more widows and orphans in Abuja will continue to receive proper healthcare services.

Thank you GlobalGiving for the platform given to Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation (WEWE) to bring this service and more to widows and orphans.

Yours in service of helping the Widows and Orphans.
