Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) has raised a total of USD$ 10,149.451 from 121 donations for health insurance for 121 widows and orphans over the past four years and eight months (September 23, 2020 – April 11, 2025). The main goal of WEWE’s project hosted on the GlobalGiving website is to raise USD$ 50,000 to provide health insurance for 200 widows and orphans in Abuja, Nigeria, to access healthcare services. WEWE has successfully reached over 60.5% of our target.
In these five (5) months reporting period from December 12, 2024 – April 11, 2025, WEWE received a total of N260,000 (USD$164.821) in cash donations from individual philanthropists within Nigeria and USD$25 donations from WEWE’s crowdfunding page hosted on the GlobalGiving website, making it a total of USD$189.821 received this reporting period. The funds received were used to support the hospital bills of a widow and the two orphaned children (Two children of two widows). This support was made possible by donations received during this reporting period. In total, WEWE has now supported 121 beneficiaries
During this five (5) month reporting period (December 12, 2024 – April 11, 2025), WEWE identified three (3) households headed by widows (3 widows and 2 orphans) and provided financial support to them.
In the last quarter, WEWE provided health insurance and reimbursement of out-of-pocket medical expenses for a total of 121 widows and orphans, distributed across the years as follows: 55 in 2021, 26 in 2022, 16 in 2023, 21 in 2024 and 3 from the last reporting period until the present. This insurance provider covers National Government Insurance and Direct Private Health services.

WEWE has successfully provided healthcare services for 121 widows and orphans in Abuja, Nigeria. The following are the details of the beneficiaries registered under the Group, Individual, and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP) program, private healthcare insurance scheme, private healthcare services, Mrs. Josephine, a widow, who received business support and widows and their orphan children who received direct cash support for hospital bills from inception to date.
From November 18, 2020, to November 17, 2021, WEWE enrolled 55 beneficiaries, registering the first participants into Health Insurance with Venus Medicare Ltd.
Between May 4, 2022, and May 3, 2023, WEWE enrolled 26 beneficiaries, constituting the second group of participants registered with the GIFSHIP.
WEWE registered 12 beneficiaries from January 1 to August 16, 2023. These individuals represent the third group of new beneficiaries benefiting from direct healthcare services pending the conclusion of their registration with the Government Health Insurance Scheme.
From August 18 to December 15, 2023, WEWE registered four (4) beneficiaries. These individuals received direct healthcare services within this period.
Between December 15, 2023, and April 12, 2024, WEWE registered nine (9) beneficiaries. These beneficiaries were recorded as those registered with a private insurance scheme called Reliance HMO Insurance scheme.
From April 13, 2024, to August 14, 2024, WEWE supported 3 groups of beneficiaries who received direct healthcare services and business support during this period.
From August 14, 2024, to December 12, 2024, WEWE supported 9 beneficiaries who were registered in the Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) called Reliance Health Insurance for one (1) year.
From December 12, 2024 – April 11, 2025, WEWE provided support for 3 beneficiaries (two orphans and one widow) with direct cash to offset their hospital bills.
Challenges and Mitigation
Nigerian donors struggle with payment issues on GlobalGiving due to incompatible payment service providers.
Conclusion
As of April 11, 2025, WEWE has provided direct support and enrolled 121 beneficiaries out of the 200 widows and orphans with support from 121 donations from WEWE’s crowdfunding page hosted on the GlobalGiving website and individual donors from inception to date. We still have 79 beneficiaries to be registered into Health Insurance for 200 Widows and Orphans in Abuja.
WEWE continues to solicit more support from our esteemed donors to reach our target goal.
