Covid-19 has created a great many difficulties in Afghanistan, especially because it is a poor country and has fragile health and education systems. AIL has had to close its Learning Centers but staff worked hard to adapt its education program to online, distance learning. Students have been provided with education packs and have access to a teacher by email, a hotline and in person if necessary. The environment is included as a topic in these study packs. AIL is using social media and networks to encourage parents to inspire their children to work on environmentally friendly practice such as recycling in the home and using any land or courtyard space they have to plant gardens and grow produce if possible.
AIL has been unable to offer in the field environmental projects due to the social distancing requirements. Radio Meraj is broadcasting daily and includes information of the environment and what individuals can do to care for their immediate surroundings. Trees that were planted under the environment project continue to be cared for and watered.
