Greetings from St Martins School and the Kibagare Community. It is our hope that all is well in your respective countries.
Here at Kibagare, it has been a busy few months, and to date, we have been able to make good progress on matters of menstrual health and awareness creation. As you are all aware most of the residents in the Kibagare Slum are very poor. This makes it hard for women and girls to afford the much-needed sanitary pad during menstruation.
In the month of June, 10 community health volunteers, our staff, and volunteers from Europe and with the help of World Serve International, a needs assessment on menstrual hygiene and access to menstrual hygiene products was carried out in the Kibagare slum.
The assessment helped to gather data from 720 households in the slum. The process itself was involving and thanks to the dedication of all the persons involved from the planning to the actual execution we were able to gather enough data that will be of importance in determining the needs of the women and girls in the Kibagare slu, St martins Primary School and St martins girls high school.
We were also able to distribute 720 sanitary pads during the household needs assessment with 450 pads distributed to community members, 30 pads to primary school-going children - pre-teens, and another 240 pads given to high school-going girls.
Thanks to our partnership with World Serve International we have an avenue that will be instrumental in creating awareness and solving the gap that is there in the Kibagare slum as far as menstrual health hygiene goes and we hope through this partnership we will be able to come up with ways that are beneficial to both institutions and the women and girls from the Kibagare slum.
We appreciate the support and donations you have given us to date and we will be sure to send you more updates of our achievements and milestones.
Kind regards,
Alfred Aswan.
