Project Report | Mar 25, 2022
IXIM's trimestral progress on children nutrition

By IXIM's team | Project Leader

Mas agua en los hogares de Guaquitepec
Mas agua en los hogares de Guaquitepec

Thanks for trusting us again!! Let us give you a brief sum up fo what we have been doing since November 2021:

  • Our final Health Day of 2021 was held in the first week of December. That time we were able to measure and take blood samples from 215 children and, as a result, 49 of them received vitamins in February 2022 to fight their anemia levels. We are happy to announce that comparing the closing levels from 2020 against 2021's, anemia reduced 4% and we will continue following up their progress on last week of March's 2022 Health Day.

  • 55 families have a brand new water purification filter in their houses, so now they can drink cleaner water. The next months we hope to reach 43 more families.

  • 38 families have a brand new rain water captation system, which allows them to have enough water during the heat season. Now they don't have to carry water buckets or risking growing mosquitos in the buckets where they use to store it. The next months we hope to reach 43 more families.

  • 80 Tseltal families are still producing vegetables on their backyard orchards. We are monitoring how much of their harvest went for self-consumption.

  • Three groups have kept training to produce honey derivatives (Capulin), house decorative articles (Pinabetal) and multifunction furniture (San Jerónimo Tulijá). The house decorative articles entrepreneurship is getting ready to sell through its Instagram page:

  • Last but not least, 36 women have started two saving groups so at the end of their saving year, they can buy their children vitamins and the pieces of the water filters that need to be replaced so the health improvements they have achieved, remain.

We keep on working closely with the families even though the pandemic has forced us to stop now and then. There's a lot more coming in the nexth months,

Keep safe and receive our best regards!
