The War in Ukraine now does not always make “front cover” or breaking news on many public medias anymore, but the conflict still remains active and unresolved and for many Ukrainians, especially during th summer offensive of the Russian State many again flee their homes to safety.
At the Foundation we continue to receive process and care for new refugees and in addition with the current offensive we see some who had returned to Ukraine come back to us and safety.
It is still very necessary for us to provide administrative and material support to new arrivals and for those who have been with us some time it is necessary to provide support in job hunting, housing, school and other educational support as well as psychological support.
Our programmes are still very much ongoing and more than ever reliant on the support of donors. We have a monthly operating cost of around 25,000 USD a month to maintain our Centre for Supporting Refugees(CPU) and to provide key support staff. Our support staff includes 8 education support specialists, 2 psychologists, office staff, legal advisor, medical advisor as well as Polish language teachers.
Our local community of Ukrainian refugees is currently around 2000 people, predominantly one parent families, usually single female and the children. We have some 600 children in our region of school age some in State Schools other home learning, both categories create challenge as the former need to fast track and catch up with the Polish Curriculum and school in the Polish Language, whereas the home learners following an online curriculum need online as well as to visit the CPU for in person mentoring and support.
It is for at the moment difficult to make these programmes sustainable and to guarantee their continuation any more than for the short term, however this conflict is going to last many more months, if not years and there is a pressing need to provide help for what is a still unfolding human tragedy. Please, if you have spare resources and monies to give please support us further.
