“A leader is a pillar of her community. It is the leader who lays out the path for going forward and who guides others to help them achieve a better life and greater knowledge.”
-Grandmother Leader Kadiatou
Grandmother Project is currently developing the training modules for the Girls’ Leadership Training program. The first training sessions are planned to begin in May. The girls who have participated in the Women and Girls forums are excited about this new development and are ready to take part!
Grandmother Leaders have demonstrated their leadership capabilities in stopping child marriage, promoting an end to FGM and supporting girls’ education. We are looking forward to seeing what intergenerational leadership will look like in Vélingara. Together, grandmother and girl leaders will work together to tackle the most pressing issues facing girls in their communities.
With the addition of the girls’ leadership training program, there will be female leaders present in Velingara that offer different perspectives and knowledge about the issues facing girls and women today in the community. Working together we are sure they will be able to resolve any issue that they come across and as Grandmother Leader, Kadiatou, made clear, “guiding others to achieve a better life.”
