By Alyssa Rychtarik | Program Development Advisor

Girl Leaders are positive agents for change.
Girl Leaders are positive agents for change.

We implemented the first session of the Girls’ Leadership Training program between December, 2022 and January of this year.  60 adolescent girls, 17 grandmothers and 15 mothers from three municipalities participated in the training.  All three generations of women were enthusiastic about the training and that all three generations were included, as one participant expressed very clearly.

“This training strengthens our role as leaders in our neighborhoods because it increases our confidence to invest more in promoting the development of girls. Today we have more courage and information necessary to mobilize our peers. Also, we are ecstatic with the presence of grandmothers, as they are our allies and we learn so much from them." - Halimatou, Girl Leader,

The Girls’ Leadership Training program is based on positive African values.  A key training objective is to strengthen communication between girls, mothers and grandmothers to promote girls’ confidence and positive cultural values.  As such, participation of all three generations of women is essential.

We have learned a lot during these sessions. That's why I urge all the Young Girls’ Leaders to get involved and share this knowledge with their peers. As leaders, we must be role models for our peers if we want to make a difference in our respective areas. I know the task won't be easy, but a leader must be committed, courageous, and tolerant. Additionally, we have responsibilities towards our society. Therefore, we must fight to contribute to the fulfillment and development of girls.”

 - Kadidiatou Diallo, Girl Leader

This training is very beneficial because it has given me a lot of ideas and contributed to shaping me as a future woman.”

Faridatou, Girl Leader

Your continued support for the Girls’ Leadership Program can ensure more girls receive this valuable training and support to become leaders in their communities.
