We're in this for the long haul...

By RW Jones | President & CEO

I want to first thank you for the support that you have given to this initiative.  Your generous support shows that you understand the importance of fathers.  We are diligently working on changing the narrative of low-income African American men and women in America.

We recently conducted some research to see who and what initiatives ranked at the top of many giving/donation platforms.  It was shocking to learn that animals consistently take the lead.  You'll rarely find support for fathers- particularly low-income fathers.  While I may have my own beliefs as to why this is, I can quickly say, this should not be.

Did you know that:

  • In 2017, blacks represented 12% of the U.S adult population but made up 33% of the sentenced prison population
  •  Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly 5 times the rate of white Americans.
  • In 12 states, more than half the prison population is Black: Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

When a father comes home from prison, they are banned from decent-paying jobs, and in many instances, they are denied housing.  How can a man who has paid his time in prison, redeem his life back to normalcy if he is constantly penalized for being a "criminal".

That is why we are in this fight for the long haul.  We know and understand you can not move One Million Moms OFF Welfare without addressing the needs of fathers.

Again, thank you for your support!

I pray that you will continue to support our efforts to support fathers.
