A great new story to open the year 2025

By EPIFANIA WILBARD | DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS

Innovation is the engine of progress, and at Twende, we're committed to driving it forward. We provide a platform for individuals to explore their creativity, develop their skills, and bring their ideas to life.

Meriana Charles, a food processing entrepreneur, was looking for a way to improve her process. After joining a Creative Capacity Building workshop at Twende, she designed and built a garlic-peeling machine that significantly increased her efficiency. This allowed her to produce more of her signature garlic paste and explore new product lines. On Girls in ICT Day, she inspired the next generation of innovators, showing young girls at our makerspace that they too can create solutions to everyday challenges.

Twende also empowers young people through programs like our "Design for Second Life Innovation" project, a collaboration with MIT D-Lab, KOICA, and Samsung. This project recently concluded with 20 young people (recent graduates and college students) gaining valuable skills in an ICT workshop covering human-centered design, upcycling Samsung digital devices, coding, and AI. They developed digital solutions for several emerging projects, including a vein viewer, safe car overtaking mechanism, mobile microscope, and even a digital enhancement for a pool table player.

From simple machines to complex digital solutions, Twende is at the forefront of innovation. We're proud to support individuals like Meriana and collaborate with other partners to implement different projects like "Design for Second Life Innovation" as they shape a brighter future.
