Dorina Nowill Foundation for the Blind (Fundacao Dorina Nowill para Cegos) is a nonprofit philanthropic organization that for 72 years has been dedicated to the inclusion of the visually impaired in Brazil. We supply special services for the visually impaired and their families free of charge, in the areas such as education, rehabilitation, low vision health and employment. We provide them with a one-year rehabilitation program with transformative solutions.
In Brazil, there are 6.5 million people with blind and low vision spread out among 8 million km with very scarce resources and treatment. Along with a diagnosis of visual impairment come innumerable changes in a person's life, as well as all those closest to them. Information, clarification and appropriate care enable the person's potential to be developed and appropriate conditions for them to thrive.
Dorina Nowill Foundation has programs with various objectives that are divided according to the expected evolution for each stage of the person's life. We offer comprehensive rehabilitation programs providing individual and group care, taking into account individual needs and skills of each person. Through these efforts, they can have their identity, integrity and stories preserved and valued.
Our foundation serves about 1,300 people (approx. 25,000 visits) per year in our rehabilitation program. With your help in this campaign, we can continue our 72-year history of providing people with visual impairments high quality services in orientation, rehabilitation, special education, job training and placement and access to information through the production and distribution of accessible books, thus guaranteeing them a dignified and meaningful life.
