Many members of the Pardhi nomads live in the village of Vyahli in Pune district, Maharashtra. They own no land and have no roof over their heads. They often earn their living with bone-heavy jobs, e.g. as road builders or stone workers.
The corona pandemic also hit them hard: many Pardhis lost their jobs and income-generating opportunities. More than 70 children between the ages of 3 and 18 no longer had access to a healthy diet and were simply starving. The children suffered from deficiency symptoms and became ill.
Thanks to your support, our partner organisation NIRMAN was able to provide 50 families with food parcels. They are very grateful for this. Finally, they were able to cook nutritious, healthy food again. You could see it in the children's faces: they are healthier again and, above all, happier!
