Help US Send 220 Children To School in Haiti

Greetings,

Happy new year to all of you, our supporters helping to provide education and hope! Home Roots Foundation has become a permanent online member of GlobalGiving! We are grateful for your support that has helped us to advance to this point. As a permanent member, we’ll be able to post various types of projects. This is important as the need for assistance in Haiti is extreme.

Indeed, 2020 has been like none other in recent years. Even before COVID-19 shut down society, protest kept students out of the classroom, many days of teaching and learning were lost. Consequently, school did not start in Haiti for the 2020/2021 school year until November. Normally, the school year begins in early September but instruction and testing from the previous school year resumed in the summer after COVID-19 lockdown. Currently, students are coming back from a brief holiday vacation to the two schools we are providing assistance to. We want to start offering tutoring for students having difficulty in math class. The schools need some repair and classes need to be added to accommodate more students that want to attend. With your help, we will be able to pay teachers and keep them in the classroom. Long-term, we are working to be able to feed the students during school hours.

In addition to supporting education, Home Roots has added additional programs (Women’s entrepreneurship, youth empowerment) -- and we have more lined-up. These programs came about because of demand (women desiring business/independence) and the conditions we observed (kids on the streets not in school). COVID-19 impacted these programs, but we are gearing up to restart. We will post them on GlobalGiving after we further gage effectiveness.
