Job is a 7-year-old third grader in Haiti. He is the top student in his class. However, he had been out of school for almost three weeks because he could not make a $100 dollar payment on his tuition ($320 total). Home Roots awarded him with a scholarship for the rest of the year! He and his parents were extremely thankful. And we are thankful for you, our supporters, for making a scholarship to such a talented student possible.
In Haiti well over 80 percent of schools are nonpublic and require tuition, fees, uniforms, and supplies. The situation with Job occurs in Haiti every day since most parents simply cannot afford the cost. If not for the scholarship Job would have missed the rest of the school year and have to repeat the grade. This leads to student being in grades far lower for their age.
Every year we work to award scholarships to students in the communities we are active in. We are working to increase the number we can award and keep the students in the classrooms. In addition to helping keep the kids in school, these scholarships help Home Roots gain the trust of the community.
