Dear Supporters,
In Haiti, armed violence against schools has surged, with incidents like shootings, looting, and kidnappings rising dramatically. UNICEF reports a nine-fold increase in such attacks within a year, severely impacting the education system. In February alone, 30 schools closed due to escalating violence, and over 25% of schools have remained shut since October last year.
Our schools, College Les Sophos and Institute Mixte Divine, finally reopened in January 2023 for the 2022/2023 school year. We are grateful for this opportunity to educate the children. Additionally, we successfully hosted a two-week summer camp from August 7th to August 18th, 2023, aiming to provide a safe learning environment.
Haiti plans to reopen the school year on Monday, September 11, 2023, despite ongoing challenges such as social insecurity, gang activity, and political instability. Your support has been invaluable. Thank you!
Sincerely,
[Herold Morvan/HRF]
