Hey all,
Just wanted to share the exciting news with you that Venel's home rebuild is complete!
Over the course of the last month we were able to hire seven Haitian skilled laborers to rebuild Venel's home. It started with clearing the broken walls and foundation. After that, they built the walls with rebar posts and concrete and reinforced the foundation so that it will be "earthquake proof" in the future. Part of the issue with Venel's home was that the earthquake split the ground underneath the home but we still felt it was important to rebuild his home as structurally sound as possible for safety and security long-term. Then the roof went up! This was also made of concrete so it was a very laborious job carrying concrete up ladders and using wood and rebar to frame it up and create the structure.
We are so excited that this project is complete, not only for Venel and his family, but for all those who are impacted by the work that Venel does every day. We are so grateful to him for his commitment to his community. We thank you so much for committing to our community by supporting this rebuild.
Venel asked me to share these words with all of you:
"Good morning guys, my supporters, my family, my helpers, I hope you are doing well. Let me take this special occasion to send my greetings and my special thanks to you for every single thing you have done for me. Specially after being hit by the earthquake recently. As you could see in the previous pictures, my house was broken. It took me five years and months saving money to build my house and it was destroyed in 30 seconds. We couldn't avoid that as it is natural but after that I rebuild it within two months because of you!!! It is a miracle and I am beyond blessed. Thank you for it would have taken many many years to rebuild that house on my own but God has placed you guys on my path and it happened in two months. I remember when I was sleeping with my family under a mango tree three days after the earthquake with my baby who is eight months old because we had no choice. So now I have a place back to sleep with my family peacefully thanks to you guys. I am so thankful for everything. On behalf of me and my family, we say thank you to every single one who put hands together to help my family and also my country in many ways. Much love ever, Venel and family"
