Update on South Asian Community Home

By Shaaranya Pillai | Development Director

The moment is finally here! Our South Asian Community Home has become a reality, as we have gotten ownership of the three suites at our Wexford Terrace location.

Now that this major step has taken place, we have spent some time to map out the future of this space and figure out how we can make the South Asian Community Home the state-of-the-art center we intend for it to be (see images). We envisioned an expansive, flexible space that will accomodate a multitude of uses. The office space will be organized more efficiently. The Multipurpose room will include a spacious programming area and be able to turn into a Yoga, Dance, or Culinary Studio when needed. There is a Media Center and Arts & Crafts area in this room as well. The Computer Lab will allow for seniors to increase their tech literacy skills, and provide an area for relevant lectures. There is also a library for seniors to engage with literature from their languages and an area for the Dementia Day Program. These rooms will be interconnected through foldable walls that will allow for the space to expand when necessary.

We are excited about these possibilities and are fortunate to have had your support to get us this far. Recently we held our Ten Year Anniversary Celebration at Swan Club, where we were able to celebrate our journey over this past decade in improving the quality of life for seniors in New York. We are grateful for each and every one of you who has helped us to get us to where we are today. We hope to continue to have your support as we move forward and make this "home away from home" for seniors a reality!
