New stages of growth

By Shaaranya Pillai | Deputy Director

Elmhurst Inauguration
Elmhurst Inauguration

We've expanded to a new location since the last time we checked in! After much demand for our services in the Central Queens area, we have established a new center at the Satya Narayan Mandir in Elmhurst. We had over 100 attendees at our inauguration ceremony, and were supported by several of our community leaders and elected officials.

This is a testament to the growth we've experienced in expanding our culturally competent senior services. Through our expansion to various locations across Queens, we've expanded our reach in benefits to clients across the borough as well. Clients visit our South Asian Community Home location to meet with our Case Worker and get the help they need with a variety of resources, including food assistance, housing applications, and accessible transportation.

Our Community Health Worker team also expands benefits and resource provision to the larger Jamaica, Queens community through follow-up and remote case work at our SACH location. India Home's coalition of CHW's have together given over 11,000 referrals to Jamaica community members, to help improve health equity in the disproportionately hit area.

In addition to our senior center services, the SACH location has been instrumental in helping our community become more civically engaged, through participatory budgeting idea generation sessions, educated on better wellness, through informative nutrition/health education sessions, and been a host for partner stakeholders such as NYU CSAAH in community engagement/education sessions.

Our SACH location continues to be an important hub for life-affirming and life-changing work for Queens. We appreciate your constant support and look forward building an even better future for our communities together!
