Artolution Mural Project – Silver Spring, MD (Oak View Elementary School)
Artolution recently completed a vibrant art project in collaboration with 5th grade students at Oak View Elementary School, a Title 1 school in Silver Spring, Maryland. As part of this initiative, students participated in a series of creative workshops led by Artolution co-founder and artist Joel Bergner, contributing to a large-scale public mural that will soon be installed on a 7-story building in the local community.
Throughout the workshops, students explored the theme of imaginative self-transformation by envisioning themselves in a different dimension. They created fantastical characters—new versions of themselves—which were painted into the baskets of colorful hot air balloons on mural cloth (Polytab). These balloons represent dreams, journeys, and limitless potential.
The collaborative process encouraged teamwork, creativity, and a strong sense of ownership, as students worked together to bring their visions to life through painting. Their contributions form a meaningful part of the larger mural, which celebrates community, imagination, and youth voices.
The final installation is scheduled for later in April and will serve as a lasting symbol of the students’ creativity and connection to their neighborhood. Through this project, Artolution continues to use collaborative public art as a tool for empowerment, expression, and community engagement.
