To all of you who have always supported us, here is the latest report on the project ”Hunger Relief for Most Vulnerable People in Uganda”!
BackgroundKaramoja region of Uganda, East Africa, is classified as one of the world's poorest areas. Nearly half the population is on the brink of starvation due to high food prices caused by the war in Ukraine and drought caused by climate change. Since last year, Terra Renaissance has been providing support to the residents of this region in producing their own food by utilizing irrigation facilities.
Marking the end of the first year of this project in February 2024, we held a ceremony to celebrate our achievements over the past year with the beneficiaries and local staff.
To begin, we reflected on the past year with our local staff and beneficiaries.
In this project, the 150 beneficiaries are divided into five groups and are actively participating. One group was able to earn around $300 ($10 to $13 per person) in profit by cultivating barren land from scratch, investing significant time and effort, and selling the vegetables they grew. Considering that they were previously only able to earn less than $0.5 per day from day labor or other odd jobs, this amount is significant for them.
We were able to hear a voice of joy from one of the beneficiaries: "It was very hard work to water (irrigate) and remove pests from the vegetables every day, but I am so glad that I was able to earn an income and reach this day."
Afterwards, traditional dances, songs, and performances were presented by the beneficiaries to celebrate the achievements of the past year. Everyone's faces were radiant with joy, and the atmosphere was filled with happiness.
This project will continue in the form of follow-up support, with the ultimate goal of enabling them to independently grow their own crops and increase their income.
Moving forward, we will continue to support each beneficiary individually, aiming for their self-reliance to live on their own strength.
We kindly ask for your continued support.
