The Transformation of 7 Jenggala Elementary School

By David | Individual Giving Manager

Before
Before

Located in a remote area, on a hill surrounded by many ravines, where road access is very difficult, SDN (Public Elementary School) 7 Jenggala is the only school serving three nearby hamlets.

In 2018, an earthquake destroyed three classrooms and other vital facilities, leaving students with no proper place to learn. For six years, they had no choice but to study on the school terrace and inside a deteriorating library. Due to the school's dangerous, motorcycle-only access, the government had yet to provide any rebuilding assistance.

But in 2024, Happy Hearts Indonesia, alongside Classroom Of Hope, stepped in to give these students the hope they had been waiting for.

Rebuilding SDN 7 Jenggala was no easy feat. Transporting materials on the steep, treacherous roads was a major challenge, but the local community didn’t give up. They worked tirelessly, carrying supplies by motorcycle and providing snacks, housing, and labor for the construction team. Parents, teachers, and residents actively joined the school’s construction committee, ensuring the project stayed on track.

What’s New?

  • Two brand-new classrooms, offering a safe, comfortable learning space.
  • Two proper toilets, improving sanitation and student well-being.

A Future Filled with Possibilities

Now, all of the 62 students no longer have to study outside or in a crumbling library. They finally have real classrooms, and their excitement is evident every day. Teachers can now focus on teaching without worrying about unsafe facilities.

The entire community is overjoyed. Their dedication and teamwork have transformed the future of education in SDN 7 Jenggala.

Together, We Make a Difference

This project proves that where there is a will, there is a way. The perseverance of the students, teachers, and local residents—combined with the generosity of our donors—has created real change.

But many more schools across Indonesia still need help. With your support, we can continue to bring safe, inspiring learning environments to children in need.

Together, we are rebuilding not just schools, but futures.
