It's the end of our first month and it is also #givingtuesday, which means if you donate to our project over the 24hours of today then your donations will also be topped up by globalgiving. It's very exciting!
Anyway the fun stuff what have we been up to... With your donations and action change helping us out too we have had a great month. Over the past 3 weeks we have had burger night, made sandwiches and fruit 8 times, cooked spaghetti, veggie curry, rice dishes. We had a local community member donate 2 footballs so the children have been keeping active and one afternoon we decided to do a community clean up and a member of the action change team came along to run an awareness workshop on recycling and the plastics that reach the ocean that is on our doorstep.
We also got a local DJ to provide us with a speaker and borrowed a projector from Action Change so last Friday we did a movie night and we managed to raise enough money to buy some popcorn, fruit and juice for them all. We also had a visit from a local landscaper who came up with some amazing ideas for our space but the quotes are around $4,000USD so this will be our future, we would love to raise the money for this but our primary focus is feeding all 127 children.
It's summer now and it's getting very warm but keeping the children entertained and away from gangs is our priority. Our team is being mentored by the amazing Action Change team and we are now out and about asking the local supermarkets and shops for food donations, we are planning our first community fundraiser event and working with the community on other ideas to help keep this project alive and long term sustainable.
It's really exciting to see all the smiles everyday on the project and we thank you for your support to our project. Nita, who set up the project is getting amazing training to run the project as a business and we are confident that this project will be locally sustained within a few years.
