GlobalGiving report November 2023

As the FOL-LHT, through support from FOL-US and GlobalGiving, continues to help improve the healthcare delivery system in Liberia through context-relevant and evidence-informed training workshops for teaching faculty and practicing nurses and midwives, plans are underway to organize and deliver the 2024 continuing professional development workshops for the aforementioned cadres of healthcare workers. The plans include a draft budget which has been submitted and accepted by FOL-USA and a concrete CPD curriculum to deliver during the workshops in January 2024. In developing this curriculum, we have consulted the Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM), the governing body of the nursing/midwifery faculty, to contribute to the agenda items that they feel are gaps in nursing/midwifery education.

In September 2023, a grant application was successfully submitted for financial assistance for workshop funding to Global Health Ministries. The project was endorsed by the Lutheran Church in Liberia. This partnership will be helpful to the success of our program going forward.

After the 2023 workshop, one strategy we put into place was to open a teaching faculty WhatsApp as well as a practicing nurses/midwives’ WhatsApp. This cross-platform messaging service is to exchange and/or share resources from facilitators and participants. For instance, two participants from the 2023 CPD workshop rolled out our CPD resources and shared their activities, including photos, on this cross platform messaging service.

We are grateful to FOL-USA and GlobalGiving for their unwavering financial, material, and moral support, and now Global Health Ministries that enable us to deliver these CPD workshops. Thank you.
