Q22024: Empowering Adolescent Girls

Introduction:

This report highlights the progress made in the current quarter, focusing on new developments and achievements in empowering adolescent girls in Kamuli.

Objectives:

1. Expand the reusable pad-making program to reach more girls.

2. Introduce a mentorship initiative, pairing trained girls with new participants.

3. Conduct community outreach and awareness campaigns to address stigma and promote menstrual hygiene.

4. Establish partnerships with local schools to integrate menstrual health education into the curriculum.

Progress and Achievements:

Reusable Pad-Making Program:

  • 20 new girls were trained, bringing the total to 30.
  •  Participants produced over 103 reusable pads, distributed to peers and community members.

Mentorship Initiative:

  • 15 girls were trained and paired with new participants, providing guidance and support.
  • Mentorship groups meet bi-monthly, fostering a sense of community and empowerment.

Skills Development:

Sessions Held: 10 successful sessions were effectively conducted and addressed the girls' concerns and questions. Key Topics: Importance of menstrual hygiene, safe pad usage, and management of period symptoms on menstruation hygiene were conducted.

Participation: Over 20 girls actively participated, demonstrating strong engagement.

Skills Covered: Diverse skills workshops were offered, including Practical skills: Pad making, bakery, liquid soap making, crafts, and kitchen gardens.

Life skills: Communication skills, basic financial literacy.

Community Outreach and Awareness:

  • 3 successful campaigns conducted, engaging over 500 community members.
  • Stigma and misconceptions addressed through interactive sessions and materials.

Partnerships with Local Schools:

  • 2 schools partnered, integrating menstrual health education into their curriculum.
  • Over 100 students and teachers trained, promoting a supportive and informed environment.

Plans for the next quarter:

  • Continue expanding the reusable pad-making program and mentorship initiative.
  • Strengthen partnerships with local schools and engage more community members.
  • Develop targeted awareness campaigns to address persistent stigma and cultural beliefs.

This quarter's progress demonstrates the project's growing impact and potential for long-term sustainability. We remain committed to empowering adolescent girls in Kamuli and promoting menstrual health and hygiene in the community.
