Life is difficult for Dalit people living in rural Andhra Pradesh. It is valuable to read testimonials from these people to understand how repairing a broken well improves their lives. Here are comments from some of these beneficiaries.
Mr. K., Bakkannagaripalli Thanda Village
“My gratitude to the donor of this well ‘Little Ripples Wine Australia’ for helping with a most needful gift of a Drinking Water Borewell to our village people. This well is most helpful to us to meet the domestic needs of water. Before this well, we used to go by walk to far place 3 1⁄2 kms away which was proved us very hardship. But now we are very happy with this well, it has been very convenient for us. This well is helpful to us in many ways i.e., now we are able to attend to our income generating occupations, our children able to spend their most of time on their studies. In addition to these, we educated about how to keep hands and homes clean with this clean water. Our health is good. We expect this well to benefit us for many years to come.”
Miss S, 15
“Now I feel happy for having my own time for my studies. I need not go long for water on foot wasting my valuable time of my studies. Before installation of this well, I have to go with my mother by walk about 3 kms away to get water by spending at least 3 to 4 hours per day. Now I could have half of the day saved as the new hand pump bore-well is installed in our village. My gratitude to the donor in Australia for its noble donation, because I have got my time and energy saved to build up my career.”
Mrs. R., 24
She woke early and prepare food for her 2 children, before walking to fetch water from the 3 kms away agriculture well, a trip that took two hours, and she spent 6 hours every day fetching water. Before installation of this village borewell she lost most of her wages due to the loss of her time. “My time is now saved with this well because it is installed nearby our house. Our village people are now safe from the water scarcity problem. Now we are able to get water from this borewell quickly as it is installed near to our homes. My children have been able to focus on school and their education.
Mrs. R, 33
“Now all the people in our village are using the water from this newly installed borewell, there is no scarcity like before. For us it does not take long time, it is just 5 minutes walk to this hand pump well in our village. The route is easy going. It is safe to all. We are taking care of this well in good manner. And we also received health training by the health worker, the health worker taught us that, time to time soap hand washing is equal to life saving attitude. The people in our village picked motivation and following habit of soap hand wash daily. Our children are going to school. Our gratitude to the sponsors BridgIT Water Foundation Australia & USA.”
