Ongoing support for the most vulnerable

OSCAR families continue to suffer the effects of the pandemic and families still learning to adjust. Those who lost their jobs have returned to work, but life is still challenging.
Thanks to the generosity of GlobalGiving donors, OSCAR is able to provide a monthly dry feed to the most in need. Sonali (13) stays in Bandra and is a beneficiary of the OSCAR Football programme. She studies in grade 8 and aspires to become an Air Hostess.
Sonali actively participates in OSCAR's football and life skills programme. Prior to joining she did not attend school. She says “First when football was not there in life, I used to feel bored and never like to go to school. But now through football, I learned how important education is in our lives. This has helped me with my education, given me space to grow and play football.”
OSCAR is happy to report that Sonali has developed significantly over the past few months. She regularly attends school and the OSCAR programmes and says she is now loving school and her academics. Sonali lives with her mother and brother. Her father is absent.
Sonali’s mother takes care of her and her brother. She feels very bad when she sees her mother working so hard in the home to fulfil their needs. During the lockdown, her mother lost her job which forced Sonali’s brother to drop out of school and start working. We are pleased to report her mother is once again employed and her brother studying again. Sonali continues to inspire and motivate young children in her community. We are all very proud of her!
